An Indian court has issued a bailable arrest warrant against filmmaker and actor Anurag Kashyap after he failed to appear despite being summoned in a case linked to his controversial social media remarks about the Brahmin community.

The 54-year-old filmmaker, known for critically acclaimed films such as Gangs of Wasseypur and Black Friday, was reportedly summoned by the court through a newspaper notice but did not attend the hearing.

According to the report, the court had directed the registration of a case against Kashyap in May following an application filed by a lawyer associated with the Bajrang Dal and the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP).

The case refers to Sections 192, 352 and 352(2) of Indian law, which concern allegedly promoting enmity between different groups, intentional insult intended to provoke a breach of peace, and spreading false rumours.

The complainant cited a social media post published by Kashyap on April 16, 2025, claiming that the remarks had hurt the sentiments of the entire Brahmin community.

The court has now issued a bailable warrant after Kashyap failed to appear in response to the summons.

A bailable warrant allows an accused person to secure release by furnishing the bail amount or bond specified by the court.
