WAH CANTT: Senior political analyst, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) activist, and Punjab Social Media Coordinator Basim Nadeem Butt has called for national unity and inter-sectarian harmony, warning that attempts to fuel sectarian divisions could undermine Pakistan’s internal stability at a time of heightened regional tensions.

Speaking on the evolving security situation in the Middle East, Butt alleged that recent domestic controversies should be viewed in the context of broader hybrid warfare tactics aimed at weakening Pakistan from within. He said Pakistan has recently played a constructive diplomatic role by helping ease regional tensions following the Iran conflict, enhancing its standing as a responsible regional actor.

According to Butt, efforts to create sectarian discord at such a sensitive time could damage Pakistan’s national cohesion and international image. Referring to recent remarks by a religious figure that he described as derogatory toward the Shia community, he urged all stakeholders to avoid rhetoric that could deepen sectarian divisions.

Commenting on regional developments, Butt said the security environment in the Middle East remains fragile. He noted Pakistan’s longstanding strategic relationship with Saudi Arabia and said Islamabad remains committed to its defense cooperation with the Kingdom under existing bilateral agreements.

Butt also criticized what he described as attempts to diminish the sacrifices of Pakistan’s Armed Forces during the Kargil conflict. Paying tribute to the country’s martyrs, he quoted Verse 154 of Surah Al-Baqarah, emphasizing the Islamic concept of martyrdom and the enduring respect owed to those who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.

Concluding his remarks, Butt urged political, religious, and social leaders to reject divisive narratives and prioritize national unity. He called on citizens to promote inter-sectarian harmony, support state institutions, and work collectively to safeguard Pakistan’s peace, stability, and sovereignty.
