MUMBAI, October 12, 2026 — Veteran Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan has faced criticism on social media after a video appeared to show him not shaking hands with a young female fan during his birthday celebrations.
The incident has sparked an online debate about the actor’s interaction with fans, with some users criticising his response to the child’s request.
On October 11, Bachchan continued his annual birthday tradition of stepping outside to greet fans who had gathered to celebrate the occasion. During the gathering, some children reportedly attempted to move past the security cordon to get closer to the actor, but security personnel stopped them.
In the viral video, Bachchan can be seen greeting the crowd with folded hands, posing for photographs with a large garland brought by admirers and waving to fans. He also appears to acknowledge their affection before returning inside.
However, a moment in which a young girl reportedly attempted to shake his hand, but did not receive the response she sought, drew criticism from some social media users. Others may interpret the brief interaction differently, and the available account does not establish the actor’s reason for not shaking hands.
Several prominent figures from the film industry also extended birthday wishes to Bachchan, including his daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Ajay Devgn, Chiranjeevi, Sanjay Dutt, Anupam Kher, Prabhas, Kamal Haasan, Kajol and Farah Khan.
The viral clip has renewed discussion about celebrity interactions with admirers and how brief moments at crowded public appearances are interpreted online.
