HYDERABAD: The Aga Khan Maternal and Child Care Centre (AKMCCC) in Hyderabad organized a one-day health camp to mark World Hepatitis Day, providing free hepatitis screenings, subsidized specialist consultations, and health education to promote early detection and prevention of liver disease.
Held under the global theme “Hepatitis Elimination Starts with You,” the camp aimed to improve access to preventive healthcare and encourage timely diagnosis among residents from across Hyderabad.
Participants received consultations from Family Medicine and Internal Medicine specialists at subsidized rates. The camp also offered free rapid screening tests for Hepatitis B and C, along with complimentary health assessments, including blood pressure, pulse rate, height, and weight measurements.
In addition to screening services, attendees participated in awareness sessions covering hepatitis prevention, transmission, early diagnosis, and treatment. Discounted laboratory and radiology services were also made available for further evaluation and follow-up care.
Speaking on the occasion, Syed Muhammad Sohail, Chief Operating Officer for Outreach Services and Off-Campus Hospitals at Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH), highlighted the importance of early diagnosis in combating hepatitis.
“Hepatitis remains a significant public health challenge, yet early detection and timely intervention can drastically alter patient outcomes,” he said.
He added that the initiative was designed to reduce financial and geographical barriers to specialized healthcare while encouraging people to take proactive steps to protect their health.
Health officials and AKMCCC representatives said community outreach programs such as the health camp are vital to achieving the World Health Organization’s goal of eliminating hepatitis by 2030.
They reaffirmed the centre’s commitment to expanding similar preventive healthcare initiatives in underserved communities to improve public health awareness and access to essential medical services.
Officials said the successful event reflects AKMCCC’s continued dedication to preventive healthcare and community well-being.
