ISLAMABAD, July 19: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has launched a merit-based, fully funded PhD scholarship programme to help talented students pursue advanced research without financial pressure.

Selected scholars will receive a monthly stipend, full tuition fee coverage and financial support for approved academic and research expenses under the university’s policy. The AIOU PhD scholarship programme is aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s research capacity and encouraging high-achieving students to contribute to innovation and national development.

The university said the financial assistance would allow scholars to concentrate on their academic work while gaining practical experience through teaching, research projects and other academic activities.

These opportunities are expected to help participants improve their teaching abilities, strengthen their research skills and build professional experience for careers in universities, research institutions and other knowledge-based sectors.

AIOU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nasir Mahmood said developing a strong research culture remained a major priority for the university.

He said quality research was essential for sustainable development, scientific progress, innovation and the growth of a knowledge-based economy.

According to the vice chancellor, the scholarship programme would provide emerging researchers with the facilities and academic environment needed to produce meaningful and internationally competitive work.

He said young scholars could play an important role in addressing social challenges, supporting scientific advancement and contributing to Pakistan’s long-term development.

Prof. Mahmood added that AIOU was working to raise its research standards and help Pakistani scholars gain greater recognition in the international academic community.

He encouraged eligible students to apply and use the opportunity to pursue research with practical value for society and the economy.
