ISLAMABAD, August 10, 2026: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has started dispatching textbooks to students enrolled in the Autumn 2026 semester while admissions are still underway, introducing the process alongside enrolment for the first time in the university’s history.
The initiative is aimed at ensuring students receive their prescribed academic materials at the beginning of the semester instead of waiting until after the admissions process is completed.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nasir Mahmood said timely provision of textbooks and other academic materials was a priority for the university and an important part of improving the effectiveness of its distance learning system.
He directed the relevant departments to complete textbook dispatch according to the university’s academic calendar and ensure that every student receives a complete set of books corresponding to the courses in which they are enrolled.
The vice chancellor also instructed officials to avoid a repeat of complaints reported in the previous semester, when some students received incomplete textbook packages.
He said textbook sets should be prepared carefully according to each student’s selected courses and dispatched on schedule, with available staff, logistics and administrative resources used efficiently to prevent delays.
Director Admissions Syed Zia-ul-Hasnain said the first phase of dispatch covers students enrolled in the Associate Degree in Arts and Associate Degree in Commerce programmes.
He added that textbooks for students in other programmes would be sent in phases according to the prescribed schedule.
According to AIOU, the university plans to complete textbook dispatch for all students enrolled in the Autumn 2026 semester by November 15, 2026.
Officials said integrating textbook distribution with the admissions process would allow students to begin planning their studies earlier and access course materials from the start of their academic activities.
The move is expected to particularly benefit students enrolled through AIOU’s distance learning system, where timely access to textbooks remains an important part of academic continuity and independent study.
