WASHINGTON: The use of AI chatbots for assignments, homework and other educational activities is increasing among students in the United States, according to recent surveys.
One survey found that 54% of American teenagers had used chatbots to help with schoolwork, while around 10% said they relied on chatbots for all or most of their assignments.
Another survey found that 73% of students had used generative artificial intelligence (AI) in their educational activities. Among them, 31% reported using AI to generate answers for written assignments.
AI Adoption in Education
A separate 2026 report highlighted the widespread use of AI in education across multiple countries. According to the report, more than 95% of the students and teachers surveyed across five countries, including the United States, reported using AI in educational institutions.
The findings point to the growing role of AI tools in students’ academic routines, particularly when completing homework and preparing written assignments.
However, the reported figures come from different surveys with potentially different samples and methodologies. They should therefore be interpreted separately rather than treated as results from a single study.
The findings highlight the increasing presence of AI in education and the changing ways students seek help with their schoolwork.
