ISLAMABAD: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) said on Tuesday that Mahmud Khan Akhakzai did not make direct contact with the party during the presidential election.
JI leader Maulana Abdul Haq Hashmi said, “It was three days ago that a delegation of Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) visited the JI central office. During the meeting with the PkMAP delegation, the political situation in the country was discussed.
“JI does not have a single legislator in the National Assembly,” he added.
Hashmi claimed, “Two of the legislators represent JI in the Balochistan Assembly.”
A few days ago, the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) decided to nominate Achakzai as its candidate for the top constitutional post.
Later, the Sunni Ittehad Council submitted the nomination papers of its presidential candidate Mehmood Khan Achakzai to the Islamabad High Court.
Its petitioner was SIC-backed PTI leader Ali Muhammad Khan, who was accompanied to the apex court by other party leaders Omar Ayub Khan, Latif Khosa and Amir Dogar.
In court, Khosa addressed the Chief Justice and said he thought he would call them into the hall and offer tea.
CJ Aamir Farooq said tea could be served even after this. He added that Omar Ayub and Ali Muhammad Khan had come to the court for the first time.
Khan said he had come to seek justice, while Khosa said Ayub had appeared for the first time.
