The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has warned the PML-N-led federal government to sideline it in the decision-making process, warning that “the federal government will collapse the day the PPP withdraws its support”.
“The PML-N keeps taking such decisions where the PPP is not taken into confidence. Maybe the PML-N does not realize [the gravity of the matter],” PPP spokesperson Shazia Marri said in a statement issued on Sunday.
She said that the government led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has kept the PPP and the Sindh government in the dark about the establishment of the Pakistan Maritime and Seaports Authority (PMSPA).
The PPP spokesperson also said that they have been demanding a meeting of the Council of Common Interests (CCI) for a long time, but no CCI meeting has been convened for the past 11 months.
She claimed that the Constitution had been “constantly and openly violated”.
This is not the first time that the PPP has raised concerns that the PML-N-led government is not consulting it on key national issues.
Earlier in December, PPP Chairman Bilawal-Bhutto Zardari had said that the administration led by Prime Minister Shehbaz had no mandate to take unilateral decisions.
Emphasizing the need to take consensus decisions, the PPP chairman said, “We are the only political party that can proudly say that we are neither selected nor recipients of Form-47.”
Prime Minister Shehbaz also formed a committee to resolve issues between PML-N and PPP days after PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari expressed dissatisfaction with the government in November 2024.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the committee consisted of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, Law and Justice Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar and Economy Minister Ahmad Khan Cheema.
Bhutto had earlier reportedly expressed frustration with the Shehbaz government for breaking promises, avoiding consultation and refusing to coordinate.
