MULTAN: Multan’s Muhammad Nawaz Shareef University of Agriculture (MNSUA) was closed for two days after protests erupted over the death of 21-year-old Minahil, a 5th semester student of biochemistry, who was fatally hit by a university bus on Monday. . Minahil was riding a motorcycle when she collided with a bus coming from the opposite direction. The accident happened inside the campus and she died on the spot. Paramedics confirmed that her body was taken to Nishtar Hospital. After the incident, a large number of students gathered outside the university chanting slogans against the administration and demanding responsibility for the tragedy. In response, the university management decided to close the campus for two days in mourning. A university spokesman expressed deep sorrow at Minahil’s death and said the closure was a mark of respect. The bus driver involved, identified as Aamir, has been suspended and is currently under investigation. Shah Shams Station House Officer (SHO) Rao Mehtab said Minahil’s father had informed the police that he did not wish to file a formal complaint. However, if a formal request is made, the police will open an investigation. MNSUA spokesperson Riaz Hiraj gave more details about the incident and explained that the accident occurred at 8.30 am. Minahil, who was reportedly driving at high speed, lost control of the motorcycle after seeing the bus, leading to the collision. As a result, she was run over by a bus and died on the spot, he added. A university spokesman added that CCTV footage of the accident had been shown to Minahil’s parents and her father accepted that the bus driver was not at fault. “We have a camera recording of the accident. We showed it to his parents, and after watching it, the father admitted that the bus driver was not at fault,” he explained. Riaz Hiraj also said that Minahil had sustained serious injuries in a motorcycle accident a month ago in Cantt area. Despite the closure of the university, protests have intensified as students demand better security measures and accountability from the administration. The incident drew attention on social media.
