LAHORE: Pakistan white ball captain Babar Azam resumed training in Lahore on Friday after returning from the 2024 T20 World Cup in USA and West Indies.
Azam has started physical training at the National Cricket Academy and will start hitting the nets from next week.
According to sources, Azam will be available at home for the Test series against Bangladesh in August.
The prolific right-hander will also participate in Canada’s Global T20 League at the Vancouver Knights ahead of the series against Bangladesh.
The fourth edition of the Global T20 Canada League will be held from July 25 to August 11 with six teams participating.
Azam’s Pakistan team failed to qualify for the Super Eights of the 2024 World Cup, leading to elimination from the tournament. The team has faced criticism for poor performances in league matches.
For the first time in the Super Over tie, Pakistan lost to USA by five wickets and India by six wickets. On June 11, they managed to win seven wickets against Canada.
After the match between the USA and Ireland was abandoned due to rain on June 14, the hosts were awarded a point, ending Pakistan’s hopes of qualifying for the tournament.
The national team’s last league match against Ireland was only official, after which the team returned home.
