LAHORE: Former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq has backed the selection of pacer Mohammad Amir for the Ireland-England T20I series and said his experience will be crucial in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.
Amir retired from the Pakistan Super League (PSL) earlier this year after the 9th season ended. New Zealand were selected for the T20I home series, playing three matches in short order.
Amir was part of the Pakistan team that won the 2009 T20 World Cup and the 2017 Champions Trophy in England. He is expected to be in the Green Shirt squad for the upcoming mega event and Misbah is confident that his experience will come in handy.
Misbah then praised Amir’s ability to play in the dead overs and under pressure, saying that even if he is not as good as before with the new ball, he will be important in the last few matches because of his ability.
“His experience as a Death Bowler is how to deal with pressure and use change. This factor will be an important asset in Amir’s castle now. He may not be effective with the new ball, but with his slower ball in the death, he will be important out-wicket, ” said Misbah.
“Finally comes the key factor of stress management. Before facing big teams and winning matches in big matches, it will be more important for Amir when he faces India.”
Pakistan is the only team to announce its squad for the World Cup. The green shirts recently took part in a three-match T20I series against Ireland and will now travel to England to play four T20Is in the last match before the mega event.
