MG U9 Pickup Truck Makes First-Ever Launch in Pakistan with Luxury Interior and Advanced Safety Tech

3 Min Read

MG has officially introduced its first pickup truck in Pakistan, the MG U9, marking a bold shift from the brand’s traditional focus on electric and hybrid vehicles. The launch at PAPS 2025 signals MG’s entry into the competitive diesel pickup segment, where it will challenge established models such as the Toyota Revo and ISUZU D-Max.

Engine and Performance

The U9 is powered by a 2.5‑liter turbocharged four‑cylinder diesel engine, delivering approximately 215 horsepower (≈164 kW) and 520 Nm of torque, paired with a ZF 8‑speed automatic transmission. The drivetrain includes full‑time 4×4 capability with front and rear differential locks, ensuring strong off‑road performance.

The pickup boasts a towing capacity of 3,500 kg and a payload exceeding 1,000 kg in certain variants. Ground clearance is rated at 220 mm, making it suitable for rugged terrain.

Dimensions and Build

The MG U9 is a dual‑cab 4×4 pickup measuring around 5,500 mm in length, 1,997 mm in width, and a 3,300 mm wheelbase. Interestingly, the U9 features a unibody design, meaning the cab and tray are integrated rather than separate. While this limits tray customization, it offers structural rigidity and unique options such as a foldable midgate that extends the tray into the cabin.

Comfort and Safety

Inside, MG has equipped the U9 with luxury‑grade features uncommon in the pickup segment:

  • Driver’s seat: 8‑way electric adjustment, 4‑way lumbar support, heating, ventilation, and massage functions.
  • Passenger seats: 6‑way electric adjustment with heating.
  • Steering wheel: Heated and adjustable in four directions.

Safety is reinforced with seven airbags, L2 ADAS driver‑assistance systems, a 540‑degree camera system, and driver attention monitoring.

Technology and Amenities

The U9 integrates a 12.3‑inch touchscreen infotainment system with JBL eight‑speaker audio, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and rear AC vents. Additional amenities include an electric tailgate, rain‑sensing wipers, wireless charging, and a panoramic sunroof, blending utility with comfort.

Market Position

Pakistan is the second country after Australia to receive the U9. In Australia, the model competes directly with the Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux, highlighting its performance‑oriented design. Pre‑bookings in Pakistan have opened, with deliveries expected in the first quarter of 2026.
