RAWALPINDI: Security forces successfully foiled a terrorist attack on Cadet College Wana in South Waziristan on Monday, killing two assailants in an exchange of fire, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
Attack foiled by forces in South Waziristan
In its statement, the ISPR said militants belonging to an Indian-backed group, Fitna al Khwarij, attempted to breach the college’s perimeter in what it described as a “heinous and cowardly” assault. The attackers rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the main gate, causing its collapse and damaging nearby infrastructure.
Swift response prevents major tragedy
Troops deployed at the site responded swiftly and effectively, engaging the attackers with precision fire and killing two militants on the spot. Three others managed to enter the college premises but were soon cornered inside the administrative block, where a clearance operation was launched to neutralize the remaining threat.
Attack draws parallels with APS tragedy
The ISPR noted that the assault bore resemblance to the 2014 Army Public School tragedy in Peshawar, suggesting that the attackers intended to spread fear among students in the tribal belt who are pursuing education for a better future. The statement added that the militants were in contact with their handlers in Afghanistan, receiving real-time instructions during the attack — a claim that contradicts the Afghan Taliban regime’s repeated assurances of denying safe havens to such groups on its soil.
Pakistan reserves right to act against cross-border terrorists
Security officials said that Pakistan reserves the right to take appropriate action against the leadership of these terrorist outfits operating from across the border. The military reaffirmed that the ongoing counterterrorism efforts would continue under the national campaign Azm-e-Istehkam until the country is completely rid of foreign-sponsored militancy.
Forces intensify operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
The attempted attack in Wana follows a series of intelligence-based operations carried out across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in recent days. On November 8 and 9, security forces killed 20 terrorists linked to Indian proxies in two separate engagements in North Waziristan and Darra Adam Khel. According to the ISPR, eight militants were eliminated in the Shawal area of North Waziristan, while 12 more were killed in a fierce gun battle in Darra Adam Khel.
Continuous sanitization and counterterrorism under Azm-e-Istehkam
After the operations, sanitization efforts were launched to ensure the clearance of any remaining threats. The ISPR emphasized that these successful actions reflect the security forces’ firm resolve to eliminate all forms of terrorism and maintain lasting peace across the country.
National resolve to ensure lasting peace
Officials reiterated that under the “Azm-e-Istehkam” strategy, the Pakistan Army, along with law enforcement agencies, will continue to act decisively against all elements involved in destabilizing the country, ensuring that sacrifices made in the fight against terrorism lead to a safer and more secure Pakistan.
