CHITRAL: Plantation drive for 2024 launched on police line launched in Chitral. In this connection, a simple action was also held in the Chitral Police Line. Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Abdul Majid, Sub Divisional Forest Officer (SDFO) Yusuf Farhad, Deputy Commissioner Chitral Dr. Atif Jalib, Director of Agriculture, District Sailing and Water Conservation Officer, Mujeeb -ur -Rehman, Commander Chitral Scouts, Major Admin , DPO and officers of other departments participated in the plantation campaign. DFO Chitral Abdul Majeed emphasized the importance of plants and trees. He said the forest department is distributing free saplings to the Chitral Police to be planted at various police stations. He said that due to these plants and trees it not only enhances the beauty of Chitral but also provides us with tons of oxygen, colorful birds sit on its branches in the spring season, which is caused by man. Nature is full of goodness, and in the autumn season the leaves of the trees turn into various charming colors, which enhances their beauty even more. He said that these plants also have colorful flowers which make us happy and remove all the boredom and tiredness of human being and become fresh and happy. These trees give us fruit along with fuel as we also burn its branches for cooking and heating purposes.
In reply to a query he said that as Chitral is a cold region where some areas experience unbearably cold weather and people here cut firewood for burning to protect themselves from the cold and also use it for cooking which causes a lot of strain on the forests and if if this condition continued for the next thirty years, there would be no tree or plants in this region except the protected forest trees. He suggested that if the people of Chitral were given cheap electricity or LPG at a subsidized rate, they would use gas or electric heaters for cooking and heating instead of burning wood, resulting in less burden on forests.
Sub-divisional forest officer Yusuf Farhad said these trees also act as a natural check dam as Chitral is a dry zone. When it rains, the flood water flows very fast and nullahs from the mountains occur in the form of devastating floods. It also often causes human lives and financial losses, but in mountains or fields where plants and trees are abundant, it slows down the flood water and reduces its speed, if the flood water flows at a low speed, it is not so damaged. . As high compared to high velocity flood water. He added that because of these trees and plants, we can also save from the negative impact of climate change. Because now we see that it does not rain or snow for a long time, but it rains and snows without a season. If we plant more and more trees, it will have a positive impact on our environment and reduce the negative effects of climate change.
During the ceremony, they participated in a plantation campaign by planting saplings. Later, free plants were also distributed among people. The ceremony was concluded with prayers.
