Eight cutting-edge mobile water testing laboratories have been purchased, renovated, and fully equipped by KOICA and UNOPS Pakistan, marking a significant accomplishment. These labs represent a major step forward in our joint efforts to ensure the availability of safe drinking water by monitoring the quality of the water in remote places.
Beyond standard testing, these mobile labs are vital because they can be used to respond to public health emergencies in the event of natural disasters or outbreaks of waterborne diseases. These labs, outfitted with state-of-the-art equipment, guarantee quick, precise, and trouble-free testing of pollutants including heavy metals, arsenic, and harmful bacteria in drinking water.
This accomplishment is a component of a larger 7.4 million USD project funded by KOICA and carried out by UNOPS in association with key partners, such as the Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (Pak-EPA), the Public Health and Engineering Departments of KP and Punjab, the Ministry of Climate Change Pakistan (MoCC), and PCRWR. The initiative involves PCRWR and Pak-EPA in Islamabad and encompasses 35 district laboratories in Punjab and 8 divisional labs in KP. This project demonstrates the region’s dedication to improving water quality monitoring systems and building resilience against water-related problems.
The Korean government’s dedication to helping Pakistan is unwavering, especially in the water sector, according to Mr. Yeon Je Ho, Country Director of KOICA Pakistan. I am convinced that this project would improve people’s quality of life.
