ISLAMABAD: The 7th Agricultural Census, which will begin on June 1, 2024, will be conducted by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) in an effort to combine the Agricultural, Livestock, and Agricultural Machinery Censuses into one.
The administration of the province will oversee, monitor, and conduct field operations during the Census.
To keep costs as low as possible, the model and resources from the previous Population Census will be used.
For field staff, a two-tier training model has been developed.
Blocks and Mouzas for the census have been determined with the assistance of the provincial government.
The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) is now conducting the 7th Agricultural Census across the nation following the successful conclusion of the 7th Population & Housing Census (the first-ever digital census). Following FAO recommendations and best worldwide practices, PBS has decided to combine the Agricultural, Livestock, and Agricultural Machinery Censuses into a single one. PBS has begun holding discussions with provincial stakeholders and partner organizations in order to kick off the process. Stakeholder participation aided in gathering many viewpoints, determining requirements, and resolving potential problems that might arise while the Agricultural Census was being conducted in the field. The Provincial Census Coordination Center (P3C), Sindh, PBS, Karachi hosted the first provincial meeting on February 1, 2024. Dr. Naeem-uz-Zafar, Pakistan’s Chief Census Commissioner, chaired the meeting, along with Muhammad Sarwar Gondal, Member (SS/RM), Dr. Naveed Iqbal, JACC, PBS, Dr. Hizbullah Bhutto, Director of the Livestock Department, and Dr. Ali Nawaz Channar, Director of Agriculture Extension, from the Government of Sindh. The conference was attended by Mr. Shakeel Qadeer, Director (CPMU), PBS, Karachi; Mr. Azizullah Bhatti, Director (DP); and Mr. Munwar Ali Ghanghro, Director (Incahrge), PBS, Provincial Office, Karachi. Following the chair’s well-received remarks, Mr. Muhammad Sarwar Gondal gave a presentation outlining the entire census framework. It has been noted that 23% of the GDP comes from the agricultural sector, and the country needs up-to-date agricultural data in order to plan and identify the resources that would help maximize production.
With the assistance of the Provincial and District Administration, PBS has organized to carry out the 7th Agricultural Census, utilizing the personnel and materials left over from the previous Population Census. Supervisors and enumerators are scheduled for two-tier training. The house has already been informed of the training and resource allocation plan that has been developedThe most efficient use of resources will be achieved by leveraging on the infrastructure and utilizing the tablets from the previous population census.
According to him, the digitization of all major surveys and censuses will guarantee the efficiency, accountability, and transparency of data collection as well as its subsequent distribution to end users. After a thirteen-year break, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics conducted the Agricultural Census, a great initiative that was praised by all of the participants from partner organizations. They also pledged their full support to the national cause, which will have a significant impact on the country’s economy.
