37 Prisoners Ordered Released After Mardan Central Prison Visit

MARDAN: District and Sessions Judge Mardan Ashfaque Taj, accompanied by Civil Judge/Judicial Magistrate Khizar Hayat, visited Central Prison Mardan on August 28, 2026, where they reviewed prisoners’ cases and inspected facilities.

During the visit, the judges heard and disposed of several cases inside the prison and ordered the release of 37 accused persons and prisoners involved in cases of a minor nature.

Prison Facilities and Prisoners’ Concerns Reviewed

Ashfaque Taj conducted a detailed inspection of the prison, visiting different barracks and interacting with prisoners and under-trial inmates. He heard their complaints and concerns and issued directions to prison authorities for their prompt resolution.

The District and Sessions Judge also inspected the food being prepared for inmates and directed the relevant staff to ensure that prisoners receive adequate, hygienic and good-quality meals.

Medical Facilities Inspected

The judge visited the prison hospital and spoke to prisoners receiving treatment about the medical facilities available to them.

According to the prisoners, they were satisfied with the treatment and healthcare services. They also said that specialist doctors, in addition to prison medical staff, regularly visit the facility to provide treatment and medical care.

Vocational Training Centres Reviewed

During the visit, the District and Sessions Judge also inspected vocational training centres and small-scale workshops operating inside the prison. He reviewed the activities being carried out there for prisoners and examined the facilities available for their training and rehabilitation.
