WAH CANTT: Authorities have seized around 15 tons of wheat flour after foiling an alleged smuggling attempt at the GT Road inter-provincial checkpost near Wah Garden, preventing the consignment from being transported from Punjab to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
District Food Controller Azhar Abbas said the flour was discovered during a routine inspection of a container that was allegedly carrying mixed commercial goods. Officials said the consignment was concealed inside the vehicle and was being transported in violation of government regulations governing the movement of wheat flour between provinces.
Routine Inspection Leads to Seizure
According to Azhar Abbas, officials stationed at the checkpost intercepted the container after noticing irregularities in its shipping documents and declared cargo.
He said Checkpost In-charge Arsalan Randhawa and Sub-Inspector Haris identified the concealed flour during a detailed inspection, leading to the seizure before the vehicle crossed into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Investigation Underway
Authorities said the seized flour has been taken into official custody, while the container has been impounded as part of the investigation.
Legal proceedings have been initiated against the suspected smugglers, officials said, adding that action has also been launched against the flour mill allegedly linked to the illegal transportation.
Officials maintain that restrictions on the inter-provincial movement of wheat and flour are intended to help regulate supplies and prevent market disruptions.
