KARACHI, September 29, 2026: Around 1,400 nursing students affiliated with colleges linked to Dow University of Health Sciences have reportedly been declared unsuccessful in the English Literature paper, prompting students to stage a protest outside the university’s main campus.
The protest, organized under the banner of Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba, is focused on the Semester 4 re-take examinations and the university’s examination policies. Students from around 50 nursing colleges are reportedly participating in the demonstration.
According to protesting students, around 1,900 students appeared in the Semester 4 examinations, while approximately 1,400 were declared unsuccessful in English Literature alone. The students have expressed concern over the high number of failures and called for a review of the examination process.
The protesters have demanded immediate cancellation of the existing schedule for the re-take examinations and called for the exams to be postponed to allow students sufficient time for preparation.
They have also called for a reduction in re-take examination fees, saying the current charges are placing an additional financial burden on students, particularly those from low- and middle-income families.
The students have further demanded an extension in the deadline for submitting examination fee vouchers to ensure that students facing financial difficulties are not disadvantaged.
The protesting students said they would continue their demonstration until their demands are addressed by the Dow University administration.
