RAWALPINDI, August 7, 2026: Security forces killed 10 militants in two separate engagements in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after an attempted attack on military check posts in South Waziristan and an operation in Dir district, the military’s media wing said on Friday.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the encounters took place on August 6. Eight militants were killed after security forces foiled an attack on check posts in the Azam Warsak area of South Waziristan, while two others were killed in a separate engagement in Dir.
ISPR identified the militants as members of what the state describes as the Indian-sponsored “Fitna al-Khawarij.” The military said troops responded effectively after the group attempted to target security positions in Azam Warsak.
During the exchange of fire, eight militants were killed, ISPR said.
In a separate operation in Dir district, security forces killed two more militants.
Weapons and ammunition were recovered from the deceased, according to the statement. ISPR said they had been involved in several terrorist activities in the respective areas.
Security forces were conducting sanitisation operations to locate and eliminate any other militants who might be present in the two regions.
The military said counterterrorism operations under the national “Azm-e-Istehkam” framework would continue against foreign-sponsored terrorism. The campaign was approved by the Federal Apex Committee on the National Action Plan.
