The afforestation drive focused on planting indigenous and climate-resilient saplings in areas facing the Islamabad Expressway, where green cover has declined. Officials said the effort aims to contribute to carbon reduction, biodiversity improvement and better air quality in the city.

Collaboration for climate resilience

The event included participation from the Capital Development Authority and other stakeholders, reflecting a multi-sector approach to environmental protection. Organisers said such partnerships are essential for scaling climate action and strengthening long-term ecological sustainability.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Musadik Malik said tree plantation plays a key role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving environmental conditions. He added that large-scale plantation efforts will continue beyond March, with a focus on both planting and protecting trees.

Corporate role in sustainability

Zong representatives said the initiative aligns with the company’s broader strategy of integrating environmental responsibility into its operations. Nabila Yazdani noted that sustainability is being embedded into the company’s long-term vision, alongside efforts to promote awareness and responsible practices.

The company said it plans to continue investing in green initiatives and energy-efficient technologies to support Pakistan’s environmental goals. The afforestation drive is part of a wider effort to promote sustainable development and encourage collective action on climate challenges.
