LAHORE — The Punjab government, in collaboration with environmental and youth organisations, has launched the “Young Greeners Plantation Campaign” to plant 5,000 indigenous trees across two public parks in Lahore, aiming to promote urban sustainability and community-led climate action.

The initiative is being implemented by the Environment Protection Agency (EPA), Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA), and youth development organisation Bargad, with support from FAST Cables. An inauguration ceremony held at a local park brought together more than 100 young volunteers, community members and officials.

According to organisers, the campaign focuses on increasing green cover in the city while encouraging youth participation in environmental conservation efforts.

Multi-stakeholder participation

The launch event was attended by key officials including Bargad Executive Director Sabiha Shaheen, PHA Director General Mansoor Ahmed, FAST Cables CEO Kamal Mahmood Amjad, and EPA Inspector Muhammad Waqar. Participants collectively planted saplings to mark the start of the campaign.

Representatives from academic institutions, civil society and social welfare organisations also joined the event, alongside youth volunteer networks such as NYVN, BVN, Youth Volunteer Organization, and Environmental Health Care Organization.

Focus on youth and community engagement

Faith-based leaders and youth climate activists also participated, highlighting the campaign’s focus on community involvement and environmental awareness. Organisers said the initiative aims to build long-term engagement in climate action, particularly among young people.

The campaign carries the slogan “Jithey Haryali, Othey Khushhali,” emphasising the link between green spaces and community wellbeing.

Officials said the plantation drive reflects ongoing efforts to improve Lahore’s urban environment and promote sustainable development through collaborative action.
