Xi urges youth to align personal goals with China’s development priorities

BEIJING: Xi Jinping has called on young people in China to align their personal ambitions with the country’s broader development goals, highlighting their role in national progress ahead of Youth Day.

In a letter addressed to representatives of recipients of the China Youth May Fourth Medal and New Era Youth Pioneer awards, Xi encouraged youth to contribute actively to China’s long-term development. The message comes as the country prepares to implement its next five-year development framework.

Xi, who also serves as general secretary of the Communist Party of China and chairman of the Central Military Commission, extended greetings to young people nationwide and acknowledged their contributions across sectors.

He noted that award recipients are engaged in areas such as technological innovation, rural development, social services and border security, reflecting the diverse roles young people play in national advancement.

Focus on national development

Xi highlighted that 2026 marks the beginning of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan (2026–2030), describing it as a key period for youth participation in development initiatives.

He urged young individuals to remain committed to their roles, pursue excellence and contribute to the country’s ongoing development efforts.

Recognition of youth contributions

The China Youth May Fourth Medal and New Era Youth Pioneer awards recognise individuals who have demonstrated notable contributions and leadership in their respective fields.

According to official information, several awardees recently wrote to Xi, sharing their experiences and reaffirming their commitment to contributing to national progress.
