Beijing, Feb 8, 2026 — Xi Jinping extended Spring Festival greetings to China’s military veterans while attending a gala hosted by the Central Military Commission for retired officers from Beijing-based troops, according to official media.
Xi, who also serves as general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, met the veterans on Friday, exchanged greetings, and asked about their health and living conditions. The gathering reviewed developments involving the party, the country, and the armed forces over the past year.
Officials said the veterans reaffirmed their support for the CPC Central Committee’s leadership and pledged to continue contributing to national defence and military development. They also reiterated their commitment to policies guiding the modernization of China’s armed forces.
The veterans expressed support for advancing defence reforms and meeting long-term military goals, including progress toward the centenary objectives of the People’s Liberation Army in 2027, as China continues efforts to modernize its national defence.
