ISLAMABAD, April 8, 2026: World leaders and international organisations have welcomed Pakistan’s role in facilitating the US-Iran ceasefire, describing the two-week truce as a critical opening to reduce tensions and advance stability across the Middle East.
The ceasefire, which pauses hostilities between Washington and Tehran, has drawn broad global support, with countries urging full compliance and calling for immediate diplomatic engagement to prevent further escalation.

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres welcomed the agreement and urged all sides to honour the ceasefire, stressing the need to protect civilians and minimise human losses. He also acknowledged the diplomatic efforts of Pakistan and other countries involved in bringing both sides to the table.
Countries call ceasefire a step toward stability
Governments including Australia, Malaysia, Japan, Egypt, Indonesia, Iraq and New Zealand described the ceasefire as a positive and necessary step, urging all parties to take concrete actions to ease tensions and build trust.
Egypt’s Foreign Ministry termed the development a key opportunity to restart negotiations, while Australia and New Zealand said the pause in fighting could support long-term regional stability if followed by sustained diplomatic efforts.
Focus on diplomacy, sovereignty and security
Indonesia’s Foreign Ministry emphasised respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity and diplomatic channels, and called for a United Nations investigation into the deaths of peacekeepers.
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim urged stakeholders to build on Iran’s 10-point proposal and transform it into a comprehensive agreement that promotes stability across Iran, Iraq, Lebanon and Yemen.
Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Minoru Kahara described the ceasefire as a constructive development, highlighting the importance of ensuring safe maritime passage through the Strait of Hormuz and expressing confidence in continued diplomacy.
Mediation efforts acknowledged
Global leaders also recognised the role of Pakistan, Turkiye, Egypt and Saudi Arabia in facilitating dialogue and helping secure the ceasefire between the United States and Iran.
The coordinated diplomatic engagement by these countries has been widely viewed as instrumental in creating conditions for de-escalation and opening space for further negotiations.
