On the occasion of World Diabetes Day, a seminar and walk focusing on diabetes were held at the District Headquarters Hospital Timergara with the support of Getz Pharma and the Pakistan Endocrine Society. Speaking at the seminar, the chief guest, Professor Dr. Samiullah, Principal of Timergara Medical College, along with Dr. Ali Asghar, Medical Superintendent of Timergara Hospital, diabetes specialist Dr. Rabnawaz, medical specialist Dr. Qazi Ikramullah, surgical specialist Dr. Bakht Sarwar, cardiologist Dr. Ilyas, orthopedic surgeon Dr. Waqar Alam, Dr. Abrar Khan, and others, highlighted that diabetes is a silent killer and a devastating disease, often termed the “mother of all diseases.” It can affect the heart, kidneys, brain, and other organs, and Pakistan ranks third in the world in terms of the number of diabetes patients. Globally, around 37 million people suffer from this dangerous disease, and every fourth person has diabetes. Worldwide, 1.5 million people have died from this disease. They urged the public to avoid obesity, exercise for at least 30 minutes daily, and control their intake of sugar, sweets, and soft drinks to prevent this ailment.
