World Diabetes Day, and every fourth adult in Pakistan is affected by diabetes

Diabetes cannot be cured, but it can be controlled with proper care, exercise, and medication. Major causes of diabetes include unhealthy eating habits, obesity, genetic factors, and stressful conditions.

On the occasion of World Diabetes Day, an awareness campaign was held at CMH Rawalpindi. Surgeon General Lieutenant General Arshad Naseem, in his message, stated that diabetes is an extremely dangerous disease, with over 30 million people affected in Pakistan. He emphasized that a healthy diet and regular exercise are crucial in preventing diabetes.

In line with the vision of the Chief of Army Staff, the Pakistan Army is highly focused on physical fitness, resulting in a minimal prevalence of diabetes among army personnel.

Special arrangements for diabetes screening and awareness have been made in all Pakistan Army hospitals. Lieutenant Colonel Shumaila Mohsin highlighted that 15 million children in Pakistan are suffering from obesity, which can later lead to diabetes.

An active awareness campaign is underway in all Combined Military Hospitals, emphasizing prevention through a balanced diet, avoiding junk food, regular exercise, and adopting healthy habits.

Dr. Sajiha, in her message, advised that to prevent diabetes, hospital visits are not necessary; taking precautions at home can help prevent the disease.

Dr. Farah Gardezi added that diabetes is not a life-threatening illness, and one can overcome it with a healthy diet and regular exercise.
