On that day, when he came to the fields with his animals, he found the body of a woman. Upon receiving information about the woman’s murder, the police reached the spot, recorded the statement of the informant, registered a murder case against an unknown accused under relevant sections, and started the investigation by collecting all evidence from the scene.

The body, whose name and address were initially unknown and whose relatives could not be traced, was handed over to the TMA Jund staff for safe burial. Further investigation was carried out, and on 16.09.2025, the fingerprints of the deceased were submitted to NADRA Headquarters, Islamabad. Publicity was also given on social and print media to locate the heirs of the unidentified woman.

Upon receiving the fingerprint report on 26.09.2025, the unidentified body was identified as Ms. Rani Yasmin, wife of Mazhar Hussain, resident of Mohalla Sanghar Pura, Dakkhana Khas, Khabeki, Tehsil Nowshera, District Khushab.

When the heirs of the deceased were contacted, her husband, Mazhar Hussain, son of Allah Ditta, resident of Khushab, nominated the accused, Elahi Bakhsh, son of Shah Muhammad, resident of Mohalla Eid Gah, Khabeki, Tehsil Nowshera, District Khushab, in his statement.

Several raids were conducted at the residence of the accused to arrest him, but he deliberately went into hiding to avoid arrest. The competent court declared him a proclaimed offender. Utilizing human intelligence and modern technology, on 12.10.2025, the proclaimed offender Elahi Bakhsh was arrested.

During interrogation, the accused revealed that the deceased, Rani Yasmin, had been working at his tent service since 2023 and gradually developed an attraction toward him, which led to an illicit relationship. In June 2025, Ms. Rani Yasmin got angry with her husband and left home. In September 2025, she contacted the accused from Shinkiari and said, “Come and take me away. If you don’t take me, I will report you to the police. I wanted to get rid of him.”

The accused further confessed, “On 10.09.2025, I came to Rawalpindi from my village for some work, and from there I went to Shinkiari, where I stayed with Ms. Rani Yasmin for two days. On 12.09.2025, we both came to Rawalpindi from Shinkiari. I told her to go back.

We went toward the village, but she insisted that we continue wandering around. We eventually started walking near the river, where she began blackmailing me again, saying that I must marry her and transfer my village plot to her name, otherwise she would file a case against me. Fed up with the blackmail, I pulled the scarf around her neck and strangled her to death. I hid her body in a low area, covered it with grass, and returned to my village, Khabeki.”

The accused has been remanded into physical custody. The dupatta of the deceased—the murder weapon used in the woman’s murder—has been recovered. The accused will be challaned in court with solid evidence, and the police have recommended that he be sentenced to death.
