Among the wild animals, the wolf is considered to be the only animal which is extremely loyal to its parents. It serves its parents in old age. It is an animal which highly believes in self-respect, so the Turks like to call their children ‘wolf’ instead of lions.
The wolf is the only animal that never compromises its freedom and does not become a slave to anyone, while every other animal, including the lion, can be made a slave.
The wolf never eats dead flesh and this is the way of the king of the jungle, nor does the wolf copulates with female mahram i-e its mother and sister. This is completely different from other animals. The wolf does not even look at its mother and sister with lust.
This wild animal is so loyal to its mate that it does not establish a relationship with any other female. Similarly, the female (i.e. its mate) is loyal to the wolf in the same way…
The wolf brings up its children because their parents are the same.
If one of the couple dies, the other stands at the place of death and mourns for at least three months.
In Arabic, the wolf is called “Ibn al-Bar”, meaning “good son” because when its parents get old, it hunts for them and takes full care of them.
That is why the Turks liken their children to be wolves instead of lions. They believe that “It is better to be a wolf than a lion.”
