If a war broke out between Russia and the US, and it escalated to the use of nuclear weapons, what kind of devastation would American weapons cause? A US magazine has examined this scenario.
According to the magazine, the most powerful nuclear weapon in the US arsenal is the B83. The blast from this nuclear bomb would create a fireball that spans an area of four square kilometers, and the destruction would be so extensive that buildings would be destroyed or burned over an area of 175 square kilometers.
The magazine states that if the B83 bomb were dropped on the capitals of Russia, China, and North Korea, the destruction would be catastrophic. According to the report, if it were dropped on Moscow, 1.4 million people would be killed and 3.7 million would be injured. If it were dropped on Beijing, 1.5 million people would be killed and 3.3 million would be injured. Similarly, if it were dropped on Pyongyang, 1.3 million people would be killed and 1.1 million would be injured.
Russia’s Response to the Report
In response, Russia has warned the US about the devastating consequences of a potential nuclear weapons conflict. Russia has made it clear that it is considering the resumption of nuclear weapons testing.
