Wedding vehicle plunges into ravine in Swat, two children killed, five injured

Swat: At least two children were killed and five others injured when a pickup vehicle carrying wedding guests plunged into a deep ravine in the Chinar area of Kokarai, Swat district, police said on Sunday.

According to officials at Kokarai Police Station, the accident occurred in the upper reaches of Chinar when the vehicle went out of control and fell into a ravine. The pickup was reportedly being driven by the groom himself as part of his wedding procession.

Police identified the deceased as 16-year-old Kashif, son of Bakhti Rehman, a resident of Kokarai, and four-year-old Hazrat Usman, son of Muhammad Ashfaq, originally from Mardan and currently residing in Buner. Both children died at the scene.

The injured were identified as 17-year-old Razaullah, 17-year-old Parvez, both residents of Kokarai, and 13-year-old Muhammad Umar, a resident of Mardan currently living in Buner. The groom, Hujjaj, son of Ajab Khan, survived the accident without sustaining injuries.

Rescue teams shifted the dead and injured to Saidu Teaching Hospital, where hospital officials said the condition of the injured was critical.

The tragic incident turned a moment of celebration into mourning across the area, with residents expressing grief over the loss of young lives.

Police said an investigation into the cause of the accident was under way.
