LAHORE: Former Pakistan cricket captain Waqar Younis has taken over his role as Cricket Affairs Advisor to PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, Geo News reported citing sources.
Naqvi entrusted Younis with overseeing cricketing affairs, with the upcoming series against Bangladesh as his first task.
Younis will work with the selectors and coaches to prepare for the Test series. The series is slated to begin Aug. 21, with team announcements and camp decisions made earlier.
The appointment marks a significant step in improving Pakistan’s cricket operations and strategic planning under Younis’ experienced leadership.
Note that Naqvi will focus on the administrative affairs of the cricket board.
Naqvi’s primary focus will be to look after the administrative affairs of the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025, which Pakistan will host between February and March next year.
According to the PCB Constitution 2014, the chairman of the board has the power to delegate his authority to someone and thus Younis will be given the power to take all decisions related to the team.
Earlier this month, Naqvi met with more than two dozen former and current cricketers from Pakistan to discuss the future of cricket in the country.
Assuring the implementation of the proposals in the meeting, Naqvi said that five or six things mentioned by the cricketers in the meeting would be implemented.
