The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has made VPN registration mandatory for banks, embassies, IT firms, and freelancers.
A consultative session on VPNs was held in Islamabad, organized by the PTA. According to the session’s statement, the focus was on the registration and facilitation process for VPNs.
The meeting was attended by representatives from the Ministry of IT, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the State Bank of Pakistan, and other relevant institutions. The CEO of the Pakistan Software Export Board, the Chairman of the Pakistan Software House Association (P@SHA), and the CEO of the Pakistan Freelancers Association were also present.
PTA emphasized the importance of VPN registration to ensure data security and uninterrupted internet access.
As per the statement, VPN registration has been made mandatory for software houses, IT firms, banks, embassies, and freelancers. All stakeholders stressed improving the registration process while ensuring business continuity and secure internet usage.
P@SHA suggested allowing more time for consultations regarding unregistered VPNs.
