CHENNAI: Sangeetha, wife of actor-turned-politician and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, has withdrawn the divorce petition she had filed before a family court, bringing the current proceedings to an end.

According to Indian media reports, Sangeetha appeared before the court through video conference on Friday and recorded her statement, saying she did not wish to pursue the divorce case further.

Following her statement, the family court allowed her to formally withdraw the petition and disposed of the case. Vijay’s lawyer did not object to the withdrawal.

The court also granted Sangeetha permission to file a fresh petition in the future if she chooses to do so.

Sangeetha had filed the divorce petition in February 2026. In the petition, she reportedly made allegations concerning Vijay’s alleged relationship with a female actor.

According to her claims, Sangeetha became aware of the alleged relationship in 2021. She said Vijay had promised to end it, but alleged that the situation continued.

She further claimed that Vijay gradually distanced her from his personal and professional life and was seen with the actress during overseas trips and public events. Photos of some of these appearances were also circulated on social media, according to the petition.

Sangeetha also alleged that the situation caused emotional distress and embarrassment for her and their two children, Jason Sanjay and Divya Saasha. She reportedly made additional allegations concerning financial restrictions and limitations on her movements.

With the withdrawal of the petition, the existing divorce proceedings have now been closed. However, the court’s order leaves Sangeetha free to initiate fresh proceedings in the future if she decides to do so.
