Uzbekistan, UN to expand full-scale partnership

New York – The Uzbekistan-UN partnership reached a new milestone during the 80th session of the UN General Assembly. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev met UN Secretary-General António Guterres to discuss expanding cooperation on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

President Mirziyoyev congratulated Guterres on the anniversary session and voiced strong support for reforming the UN system to meet modern challenges. Both leaders recognized the unprecedented level of collaboration between Uzbekistan and the UN. Currently, more than 160 programs and projects are active across various sectors.

In October, Uzbekistan and the UN plan to sign a new five-year cooperation program. This agreement will further strengthen the Uzbekistan-UN partnership and align national development efforts with global priorities.

Over the past few years, Uzbekistan has initiated 13 UN General Assembly resolutions. The country also gained membership in key UN bodies, including ECOSOC, the Human Rights Committee, and the Statistical Commission.

Tomorrow, a high-level forum on combating childhood cancer and other catastrophic diseases will take place at UN Headquarters. Uzbekistan initiated this event to spotlight global health challenges. Meanwhile, preparations continue for the 43rd UNESCO General Conference in Samarkand.

Guterres praised President Mirziyoyev’s address at the General Assembly. He highlighted Uzbekistan’s initiatives on SDGs, digital cooperation, youth engagement, enlightened Islam, and regional integration in Central Asia.

The meeting also covered pressing international and regional issues. Both sides agreed to deepen the Uzbekistan-UN partnership by launching joint projects and designing new programs in priority areas.

Uzbekistan’s growing role in multilateral diplomacy reflects its commitment to global cooperation. Through sustained engagement with the UN, the country continues to promote peace, development, and inclusive progress on the world stage.
