ISLAMABAD: President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan arrived in Pakistan on Thursday on a two-day state visit aimed at further strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across multiple sectors.
The Uzbek president was received at Nur Khan Airbase by President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. A 21-gun salute was presented to mark the official welcome. President Mirziyoyev is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including senior cabinet members and business leaders.
During his visit, President Mirziyoyev is scheduled to hold meetings with President Zardari and lead delegation-level talks with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He will also address the Pakistan-Uzbekistan Business Forum, bringing together public and private sector representatives from both countries.
According to officials, discussions will focus on reviewing the full spectrum of bilateral ties and identifying new avenues for cooperation in areas such as trade, energy, defence, education, people-to-people exchanges and regional connectivity.
This is President Mirziyoyev’s second visit to Pakistan, reflecting the growing momentum in Pakistan-Uzbekistan relations. Both sides have in recent years sought to deepen engagement, drawing on historical links and shared interests in promoting stability, connectivity and economic integration across Central and South Asia.
