New York: Australia’s Test opener Usman Khawaja says Glenn Maxwell will perform well in the 2024 World Cup starting next month.
The Australian cricketer did not fare well in the Indian Premier League (IPL), with the Royal Challenger Bengaluru (RCB) all-rounder scoring only 52 runs in nine matches.
In the 2023 ODI World Cup, Maxwell scored a commendable 400 and Australia will have high hopes from everyone at the T20 World Cup next month.
Khawaja asked his teammates to continue this approach in the upcoming tournament.
“IPL form doesn’t really matter. Maxine has proven herself time and time again.
“You take a bit of risk, especially if you bat in the middle order and T20 cricket is not easy. But if he gets one good innings [for this tournament], he’s gone. He won’t change his game and he doesn’t must continue,” he said.
Also, Maxwell did not play the warm-up against Namibia as he was not yet in the squad.
During the IPL, Maxwell did not score runs but performed the ball when needed. He took six wickets in 10 matches at an average of 21.50 and an economy of 8.06.
Similarly, in the upcoming World Cup, along with pacers Adam Zampa and Ashton Agar, the ball in Maxwell’s hands can prove to be effective for his team.
