Washington: The United States reiterated Pakistan’s “fulfillment of constitutional and international responsibilities and respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms”.
State Department spokesman Matthew Miller spoke at a press conference here on Wednesday.
In a press conference, he urged Pakistan to respect freedom of speech and the right to peaceful assembly.
However, Miller declined to comment on the recent US House of Representatives resolution on Pakistan’s election, saying, “But in general, our senior officials, including Secretary Blinken and Ambassador Blome, have consistently expressed respect for Pakistan’s respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms, including freedom expression, peaceful assembly and religion, as well as the rights of the marginalized population as a minority”.
It should be noted that the United States passed a resolution on June 26 calling on Pakistan to investigate the February 8 election irregularities. US lawmakers voted 368-7 for a resolution condemning efforts to prevent popular unrest in Pakistan.
