WASHINGTON, November 3, 2026: The United States has carried out limited military strikes on Iran’s Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz, with American officials describing the operations as defensive measures intended to protect US assets from Iranian missile threats.

According to US officials cited in media reports, the strikes were conducted in response to Iranian surface-to-air missile activity targeting American facilities and assets.

A US official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the operations did not signal a resumption of large-scale military action against Iran.

Another American official said the strikes were launched after Iranian forces used surface-to-air missiles against US installations and assets.

Iran’s state news agency IRNA had earlier reported multiple explosions on Qeshm Island on Monday. US officials subsequently confirmed that American forces had conducted strikes on the island.

Fox News also reported, citing US officials, that the operations were defensive and followed Iranian fire directed at an American aircraft.

American officials maintained that the strikes were limited in scope and aimed at responding to immediate threats rather than expanding military operations.

The full extent of the strikes, including the targets hit and any resulting damage or casualties, has not yet been disclosed.

Qeshm Island is located in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, making the reported military activity a significant development in the continuing tensions between Washington and Tehran.
