US kitten with 28 toes ties Guinness World Record for most digits on a cat

A kitten in the United States has been recognized by Guinness World Records for having 28 toes, matching a long-standing record for the highest number of digits on a cat.

The record highlights a rare genetic condition known as polydactylism, where cats are born with extra toes beyond the typical 18. In this case, veterinary confirmation established that the 10-month-old kitten, named Toby, has 28 toes in total.

The kitten belongs to the Henderson family in Michigan, where officials said it was born with unusually large paws. The record ties one previously set in 2002 by a cat in Canada.

According to its owner, the kitten quickly adapted to normal life despite its unusual paws and shows no signs of mobility issues. While it has 30 claws in total, caretakers say the only difference in daily care is more frequent nail trimming.

Guinness World Records confirmed the achievement after veterinary verification of the kitten’s condition.
