UNITED NATIONS, November 6, 2026: Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, has said the decision to launch military strikes against Iran was made by the United States rather than Israel, while defending his country’s support for the American operation.
Speaking to Israeli media, Danon said Washington had independently decided to attack Iran and that Israel had supported the move because it considered the decision justified.
“Unfortunately, we know that the decision to attack Iran was made by the United States. It was not our decision,” Danon said, according to the reported remarks.
The Israeli ambassador maintained that his country backed the US military action but rejected suggestions that Israel had been responsible for initiating it.
Danon also disputed claims linking Republican losses in the US midterm elections to the war with Iran.
He rejected remarks attributed to the deputy US ambassador suggesting that the conflict had contributed to significant Republican electoral setbacks.
Referring to comments involving the US vice president, Danon argued that Israel was too frequently blamed for developments involving American foreign policy.
His remarks come amid continuing political debate over responsibility for the military campaign against Iran and its consequences for US domestic politics.
The ambassador’s comments distinguish between Washington’s decision to undertake military action and Israel’s subsequent support for that decision.
Danon’s position was reported in an interview with i24NEWS, where he also rejected attempts to associate Israel with rising oil prices linked to the Iran conflict.
