University of Swat hosts Swat chapter of DOSTI Peshawar Literature Festival

SWAT: The University of Swat hosted the Swat Chapter of the DOSTI Peshawar Literature Festival at its New Block Theatre, bringing together scholars, writers and students for discussions on history, culture and literary heritage.

Organized by the Department of English and Foreign Languages (DEFL) in collaboration with the festival’s Swat chapter, the event aimed to promote intellectual engagement and strengthen literary culture in the region.

Sessions on culture, education and poetry

The programme was divided into three segments. The first session featured a keynote address on “Swat’s Culture and History” by Parwaish Shaheen Baba, who spoke about the valley’s historical legacy and cultural traditions.

The second segment included a book talk on Humanizing Language Teaching and Teacher Education in Transnational Spaces, with Dr. Imdadullah Khan, Farooq Shah and Syed Dawood Shah sharing perspectives on language teaching methodologies and transnational education.

The final session focused on the life and contributions of the late Roghani Baba. Sirajuddin Siraj and Ehsas Yousafzai presented reflections on his work, while Arbaz Hassas recited selected poetry. The session was moderated by University of Swat alumnus Adil Arman.

Promoting literary engagement

Prof. Dr. Syed Hanif Rasool Kakakhel, Chairman DEFL and organizer of the festival chapter, welcomed participants and emphasized the importance of literary initiatives in revitalizing Swat’s cultural identity and encouraging youth engagement.

The event concluded with the distribution of awards to speakers and certificates to participating students. Organizers said the strong participation of young men and women reflected a vibrant and inclusive academic environment.
