Swat: The University of Swat organized an Ehsas-e-Shajar plantation drive at its Charbagh campus in collaboration with the Swat Forest Division and the district administration, as part of a province-wide tree plantation campaign.
The initiative aligns with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s plan to plant one million trees to promote environmental conservation and address climate-related challenges. Faculty members, students and local officials participated in the drive, which also included awareness activities on environmental protection.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Hassan Sher inaugurated the activity by planting a Deodar sapling, marking the university’s commitment to sustainability and green practices.
Collaborative effort for environmental protection
Officials from the Swat Forest Division and the Assistant Commissioner of Charbagh supervised the plantation process, ensuring proper techniques and long-term care of the saplings. Organisers said the collaboration reflects a coordinated approach to expanding green cover in the region.
The plantation drive focused on encouraging participation from students and staff while promoting awareness about the role of trees in improving air quality, reducing the impact of climate change and preserving natural ecosystems.
Expanding plantation efforts
University officials said similar activities will be carried out across other campuses and public spaces in Swat to support the provincial plantation target. The administration added that such initiatives aim to instil environmental responsibility among students and the wider community.
The campaign forms part of broader efforts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to enhance forest cover and promote sustainable environmental practices through community engagement.
