Peshawar: Thirty-seven students from the Department of Journalism at the University of Peshawar have received laptops under the Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme, officials said on Tuesday.
The beneficiaries included students enrolled in PhD, MPhil, MS and BS programmes who qualified for the scheme based on academic performance. The laptops were distributed by Chairperson of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Dr Mehnaz Gul, in the presence of Assistant Professor Ali Imran.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Mehnaz Gul said the laptops provided under the Prime Minister’s Youth Scheme would serve as a source of motivation for students and help strengthen their digital and research capabilities. She said the initiative supports students in pursuing academic excellence and enhances their ability to engage with modern educational tools.
Students expressed gratitude for the support, describing the laptops as recognition of their hard work. They said the devices would primarily be used for academic assignments, research activities and participation in digital media platforms to further their educational and professional development.
According to official figures, around 76,094 laptops have been distributed to students in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under the scheme so far. Nationwide, approximately 600,000 laptops have been provided to students as part of the government’s initiative to improve access to educational technology.
