UK moves to crack down on fake visa sponsors, tightens entry rules for dual nationals

LONDON — The United Kingdom has announced stricter enforcement against employers involved in fraudulent visa sponsorship schemes, warning that companies found violating immigration laws could be barred from recruiting workers from overseas.

According to British media reports, authorities are stepping up action after cases linked to fake visa sponsors increased fivefold. The move forms part of broader efforts to strengthen compliance with immigration rules and prevent abuse of the sponsorship system used to hire foreign workers.

Officials said employers who misuse the sponsorship framework could face significant penalties, including the loss of their ability to sponsor overseas staff. The measures aim to protect the integrity of the UK’s work visa system and curb exploitation.

New entry requirements for dual nationals

In a separate development, new rules affecting dual nationals are set to take effect on Wednesday, February 25.

Under the updated regulations, individuals holding dual citizenship who do not possess a British passport may be refused entry to the United Kingdom unless they obtain the appropriate documentation. Media reports state that affected travelers will need either a visa, a British passport, or a Certificate of Entitlement to enter the country.

Those without a British passport will also be required to secure an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) or a Certificate of Entitlement before travel.

Travelers entering the UK under an ETA will be permitted to stay for up to six months for tourism or family visits.

The changes signal tighter immigration enforcement as the government responds to reported increases in sponsorship fraud and implements revised entry procedures for dual citizens.
