Peshawar: The annual Convocation 2026 of the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Peshawar was held on Monday at the University of Peshawar Convocation Hall, marking a proud milestone for graduating students and their families. Chancellor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi graced the ceremony as the chief guest.
During the convocation, degrees were awarded to 620 graduates who completed their studies in the academic year 2025. These included 573 Bachelor of Science (BSc), 38 Master of Science (MSc), and four PhD degrees in engineering and non-engineering disciplines. Outstanding academic performers were also recognized, with 22 BSc students receiving gold medals for securing top positions.
Graduates belonged to a wide range of disciplines, including Civil, Agricultural, Chemical, Electrical, Industrial, Mechatronics, Mining, Computer Systems, Urban Infrastructure Planning, Electronics Engineering, Energy Engineering, Computer Science, and Architecture.
Addressing the ceremony, Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi congratulated the successful students, their parents, and faculty members, stating that the youth of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa possess immense talent and potential, but require greater opportunities to excel. He remarked that prolonged insecurity in the province deprived many young people of educational and professional growth, adding that no compromise would be made on the rights of the province and its people.
The Chief Minister emphasized that his struggle was not for personal gain but for safeguarding provincial rights at every forum. He highlighted that the provincial government is introducing modern reforms to align the education system with contemporary needs, while substantial resources are being invested in education, research, and employment generation for youth.
Reiterating the government’s commitment, he said all possible efforts are being made to ensure that no young person in the province remains unemployed. He also disclosed that during his recent meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, discussions were held on the security situation and long-pending provincial rights.
“Peace is the foundation of development and prosperity,” the Chief Minister said, noting that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has suffered instability for a long time and would no longer be turned into a testing ground for imposed decisions. He criticized decisions made behind closed doors, terming them a source of further problems, and pointed out that billions of rupees are still owed to the province by the federal government.
Referring to public debate over funds for Tira affectees, he said that allocating Rs 4 billion for their rehabilitation was unnecessarily politicized, while serious issues such as the IMF report highlighting Rs 5,300 billion in corruption went largely unquestioned.
The convocation concluded on a hopeful note, with the Chief Minister urging graduates to play their role in rebuilding the province through knowledge, integrity, and service to the nation.
