U.S. officials engage Pakistan in diplomacy, education and cultural outreach

ISLAMABAD: Senior U.S. officials engaged with Pakistani government representatives, business leaders and technology innovators this week as part of ongoing diplomatic and public outreach efforts.

According to updates shared by the U.S. mission, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State John Mark Pommersheim visited Pakistan to hold meetings focused on governance, business collaboration and emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence. He was joined by Chargé d’Affaires Andrew Schofer Baker and Consul General Kristin K. Sanders during engagements in Lahore and Islamabad.

During the visit, U.S. officials also attended Basant celebrations in Lahore, marking the return of the traditional kite-flying festival in Punjab.

Education and cultural engagement

The Freedom 250 Lecture Series continued in Islamabad, highlighting U.S. presidential history and leadership themes. The event was streamed nationwide through Lincoln Corners across Pakistan.

Meanwhile, the EducationUSA team organized university fairs in Karachi and Lahore, providing information to students about higher education opportunities in the United States. A final fair is scheduled in Islamabad.

Sports and cultural exchange

In sports engagement activities, U.S. representatives expressed support for the American cricket team during a T20 match against Pakistan. They also joined Pakistani fans in watching the Super Bowl, celebrating American sports culture.

Officials said the week’s engagements reflect continued efforts to strengthen U.S.–Pakistan relations through diplomacy, education, innovation and cultural exchange.
