SWAT, Jan 13 — Swat district and surrounding areas were jolted by two earthquakes on the same day, prompting residents to rush out of homes and offices in fear. No casualties or major property damage have been reported.

The first tremor occurred at 1:40 p.m. with a magnitude of 4.5 on the Richter scale. It struck at a depth of 156 kilometers, with its epicenter located near the Pakistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan border.

A second earthquake followed at 4:51 p.m., registering a magnitude of 4.3 at a depth of 190 kilometers. Its epicenter was recorded in the mountainous region of Tajikistan.

Residents described moments of panic as the tremors were felt across Swat and adjoining districts. Many left their homes and workplaces, though authorities confirmed that no loss of life or significant damage had been reported.

Seismologists noted that both quakes originated from deep seismic activity, which often reduces the likelihood of severe destruction despite being widely felt.
