SWAT: At least two children were killed after a wall of an under-construction house collapsed in the Sangota area of Swat district on Sunday, police said.
According to SHO police station Manglawar Sarbaz Khan, Ahmad Zeb was watering a wall at his under-construction house when it suddenly collapsed onto the children standing nearby. As a result, 10-year-old Rehan, son of Iftikhar, and 8-year-old Zarafshan, son of Ahmad Zeb, residents of Sangota, were buried under the debris and died on the spot.
Local residents rushed to the scene immediately after the incident and retrieved the bodies from the rubble before shifting them to Civil Hospital Manglawar for legal formalities. Police said further investigation into the incident was under way.
Following the incident, residents expressed serious concern over what they described as unregulated construction practices in Swat.
Locals said many buildings and houses were being constructed without properly following municipal regulations and engineering standards, increasing the risk of such tragedies.
Residents recalled a similar incident in Mingora in which the wall of a building collapsed onto a mud house, causing damage and fear among nearby families.
Citizens urged the Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) and district authorities to take practical steps to ensure construction safety rules are implemented and illegal or unsafe structures are checked before further accidents occur.
